Creating a celebration-of-life programme

Make a personal, non-prescriptive programme for a gathering of memories and tributes.

Choose the tone together

A celebration of life may be a formal ceremony or a less structured gathering. Start by agreeing the tone with the family and whoever is hosting. The phrase does not mean everyone must feel cheerful: a warm, personal programme can leave space for grief as well as gratitude. Use the person’s name, a photograph if wanted, and a heading that feels right to those closest to them.

Give guests a simple guide

If there is a timetable, list the welcome, stories, music, refreshments and any closing moment in order. If guests will be invited to speak, explain how the host will manage this rather than promising an unrestricted open microphone. A programme can be useful without exact times for every item. Avoid printing details that are still likely to change.

Make room for a personal tribute

Include a short biographical paragraph, a family memory or words written especially for the occasion. You can add several sections and move them into the right sequence. Use readings and images only where you have permission. The site does not supply copyrighted song lyrics or a catalogue of poems, and it does not automatically generate a person’s life story.

Coordinate the stationery

After checking the booklet, preview the matching memorial card and welcome board separately. The card PDF contains a front and a thank-you reverse. The welcome board is A3 portrait, suitable for a printer that accepts that size. Names and dates are shared across the set, but each output should be proofread before printing. The one-off purchase covers the set and subsequent amendments for this memorial.

Allow for changes

Speakers and timings sometimes change. Save the editable project file before closing the browser, then update it if needed. Your recovery code restores purchased download access; the project file restores the words and photograph. A code on its own is not an online backup of the design. Keep both private, particularly if sharing a computer.
